Swedish Massage

SWedish Massage

Swedish massage is a type of therapeutic full body massage that originated in Sweden in the 19th century. It was developed by a man named Per Henrik Ling, who combined his knowledge of physiology and gymnastics to create a system of massage that focused on improving circulation, relieving tension, and promoting relaxation.

The benefits of Swedish massage are numerous. It can help to reduce stress and anxiety, improve circulation, relieve muscle tension and pain, and promote overall relaxation. It can also help to improve flexibility and range of motion, boost the immune system, and promote better sleep.

Swedish massage techniques typically involve long, smooth strokes, kneading, friction, and circular movements on the topmost layers of muscles. The therapist may also use tapping, vibration, and stretching to help release tension and promote relaxation. The pressure used during a Swedish massage can vary from light to firm, depending on the client’s preferences and needs.

This massage is sometimes thought to be the classic massage therapy. It emphasis relaxation and reduction in muscle tension often resulting from work, prolonged time sitting at a desk, and repetitive motions. It is best for people experiencing tension in their neck, shoulders and lower back. It is often used to relieve headaches and neck pain.

If this is your first time massage and are unsure of the process, a Swedish Massage with additional trigger point therapy is an excellent starting point into massage therapy treatments.
